Hyde Wall - Trust Annual Report 1982

Jacobean Monument

Problems in reaching agreement with all nine owners still hamper progress with this project, but the first and most urgent section of wall has been successfully repaired, the cost being shared between the owners and grant aid from the County and City Councils. The Jacobean monument which tops the wall was found to be dangerously unstable when its cloak of ivy was removed so that it had to be carefully dismantled. This year the Trust will be responsible for the re-erection of the monument, the full cost being met by the DOE, and the rest of the wall will follow in due course if the remaining owners agree.
