The Civic Trust - Trust Annual Report 1967
The year 1967 is outstanding for two things. First of all it marks the tenth anniversary of the Civic Trust. Founded by its president, Mr. Duncan Sandys, a former Minister of Housing and Local Government, it has resulted in a much keener national awareness of the environments where people live. During these years the number of amenity societies has grown from 150 to over 900.
Secondly 1967 is the year in which the Civic Amenities Bill has become law. For this we are again indebted to Mr. Sandys. The main provisions of this Bill were outlined in our report last year. They herald a new era in Preservation demanding new attitudes to planning procedures and techniques.
