New Powers - Trust Annual Report 1968

Neglect has been one of the factors which in the past contributed so much to the decay of ancient cities. This has often been evident where the possibility of demolition has actually increased the value of a site so that a new building can be erected. Now, however, it is possible for a repairs notice to be served by the Local Authority on the owner. This will inform him of the repairs that are considered necessary and advise him of the authority's compulsory purchase powers. If he carries these out the building will cease to be liable to compulsory purchase. If he does not, the authority may acquire the building compulsorily. It is to be hoped that this new power will be invoked whenever necessary.
