The Westgate Area - Trust Annual Report 1969
The Trust is very pleased to learn that the City Council and the Hampshire County Council have agreed to commission a detailed planning study of the area of Winchester immediately to the east of the Westgate.
Mr. Donald Insall has been appointed consultant with Mr. W. H. Wells as estates consultant. The area to be considered lies roughly between the railway line and Jewry Street and from City Road to Series House.
One of the important properties particularly mentioned for consideration is Trafalgar House which the Trust feels very strongly should have priority for preservation. The consultants are also to pay particular attention to any areas likely to be re-developed and also traffic management. The need to retain buildings of architectural and historical interest is emphasised.
The consultants will welcome ideas and discussions with those living in and concerned with this area.
