Historic Resources Centre - Trust Annual Report 1979
The City Council is to be congratulated on completing Phase I of the Historic Resources Centre, and in spite of financial difficulties, Phase II is planned to start in April, 1980. The project comprises Hyde House, and the Great Barn dating from the 17th Century. The Great Barn will house all the finds from the Cathedral digs and elsewhere, and will also provide facilities for students. Hyde House will provide offices for the Museums services, and work¬shop facilities for the Rescue Archaeologist. Winchester is thus in the forefront of British Archaeology together with York and London, and is the first city to have established both a Research Unit and a Historic Resources Centre.
The Excavations Committee is also to be congratulated on publishing the second volume of the Winchester Studies, dealing with the Roman Cemetery at Lankhills.
