The President's Walks - Trust Annual Report 1981
Understandably, following the sad death of her husband, Mrs. Carpenter-Turner felt unable to conduct her walk planned for the 15th May. Mr. Ken Qualmann, City Rescue Archaeologist, came to our aid at short notice, guiding about 50 people on an interesting tour which culminated in a visit to the Historic Resources Centre at Hyde House and Barn.
Our gallant President was back the following week to be welcomed by a large crowd at Kingsgate. All three of her advertised walks were completed, the 15th May one being postponed until 5th June. It ended with a tour of the well-patronised sports facilities at the Lido where coffee was kindly provided by members of Winchester Judo and Martial Arts Club.
