Architecture at the Library - Trust Annual Report 1981
A regular cycle of small exhibitions is organised by the Trust at the Public Library in Jewry Street. These are designed to show details of specific and important planning applications. They are prepared by the architects concerned, illustrated by plans and photographs, and accompanied by an explanatory text. The number of people viewing these displays has exceeded expectations and provides proof of the interest there is in the development of the City, and the need for a more formal presentation of planning details in a place where people naturally congregate.
Work on building up the Trust's Archives has continued during the year. These are also housed at the Public Library and consist of donated old photographs and prints or copies of such pictures, and a growing collection of present day photographs of buildings for which planning permission to alter or demolish has been granted. They form an increasingly valuable history of Winchester's buildings and street scenes, and have been used to assist in comments on planning applications and in exhibitions to illustrate the work of the Trust. Additions to this collection will be very welcome and donations or the temporary loan of photographs for copying may be made by arrangement with Mr. D. G. Dine at the Public Library.
