The Westgate - Trust Annual Report 1982

The Trust is making progress with the project to create the semblance of a carriageway through the arch of the Westgate. The granite wheelstones recently taken up from under the entrance to the Guildhall courtyard have been allocated for re-use at the Westgate, and plans are being prepared to enable the work to be costed and grants obtained. The rebuilding of a small part of the City Wall on the north side of the gate has been abandoned because this is not favoured by the D.O.E.

A short distance from the Westgate, the opening up of the entrance to the Sally Port is now nearing completion, and the Hampshire County Council is to be congratulated on this imaginative scheme which has added a new sphere of interest to an important area of the City.
