Offices - Trust Annual Report 1984
The subject of office development has been in the news recently with the City Council showing some concern at the growth in this sort of activity, and coincidentaly the Trust is in the process of preparing a view on offices in Winchester. It is a difficult subject and there is a danger of regarding the office as a bugbear. It is necessary to recognise the essential part that offices play in the economy of Winchester. They are more efficient at bringing money into Winchester than shops and in many ways are environmentally less damaging. We see a danger, however, in spreading ghettoes of offices, leaving large parts of Winchester empty and desolate outside office hours. We also see a need to limit the scale of particular office developments, as block in-filling threatens the domestic appearance of the City.
