Traffic - Trust Annual Report 1991

The recommendations of the Movement & Access Study undertaken jointly by Hampshire County Council and Winchester City Council were made known early in 1991. An important component in the Study was a report on Park & Ride by independent consultants from the Oxford Polytechnic who are regarded as leading authorities on the subject in this country. The Trust who have been advocates for Park & Ride as part of an integrated scheme of Traffic Management for many years made a contribution of £2,500 to the cost of the Park & Ride Study.

The Movement & Access Study Working Party representing both the County and the City have made a number of recommendations which include a feasibility study both for a pilot and a permanent Park & Ride scheme and the introduction of a pilot scheme within the next three years, and also for an overall review of parking provisions in the centre of Winchester. These recommendations have been accepted by Winchester City Council, we understand, are now being pursued.

The Trust welcomes these developments, in which we can claim to have played some part, and we believe that a real effort is being made at last to tackle the traffic problems of Winchester.
