Lectures, Walks and Talks - Trust Annual Report 1991

At the AGM in October last year Professor Martin Biddle gave a stimulating talk to a large audience on 'The Excavations at the Rose Theatre and Globe Theatre and their implications for archaeology in Winchester and elsewhere'.

Group Captain Monty Dawson lectured on the History of the Theatre Royal, Mrs. Barbara Hall on the Hampshire Gardens Trust, and Mrs. Elizabeth Proudman gave a repeat lecture on Winchester in the Civil War. Michael Morris led a visit to the Great Hall to view the Chantry Bequest Paintings and Keith Leaman led a conducted walk in Winchester. In May Peter Headicar gave a talk on Park & Ride in Winchester attended by City Councillors and Officers as well as members, which prompted an interesting discussion. Finally Sir Peter and Lady Ramsbotham once again opened their garden at East Lane, Ovington for members who had a most enjoyable evening.

Attendance at Trust lectures has always been variable and unpredictable so this winter the Urban Studies Committee has arranged a series of lectures around a common theme. This is described in more detail below but represents a new approach and one which it is hoped will generate considerable interest.
