1993 Lecture Series - Trust Annual Report 1993

As no doubt many Preservation Trust members will have read in the last magazine, the lecture series talks were considered excellent and thought-provoking by those who attended. The theme was 'Winchester as a European City'. It is always surprising to us that eminent speakers will come, many from a considerable distance, and for little or no reward, to impart their latest ideas and philosophy. Considering the very high quality of these lectures, attendance was generally rather disappointing. We are considering how this can be improved.

We would like to thank the speakers:

Dr Carmen Hass Klau
"The conflict of the vehicle in historic towns and the potential for ameliorating the problems".

Canon Keith Walker, Winchester Cathedral
"Winchester's past and present and future contribution to Europe".

The Vice Mayor and Tourist Officer of Laon, France
"An introduction to the historic City of Laon in Northern France and the way in which they are attempting to resolve preservation conflicts".

Professor Colin Fudge, Bath City Council
"The British contributions to the European Commission on Urban Studies and the examination of the viability of historic towns and cities".
Once again, we would like also to thank those helpers behind the scenes, particularly Dot Browning, who bears the brunt of the arrangements.
