Archives - Trust Annual Report 1995

A major collection of his own negatives of post-war Winchester has been presented to the Trust through the great generosity of Mr E A (Bob) Sollars. Until his retirement, Bob Sollars was a professional photographer covering events in Winchester from the mid-1940s up to the 1980s.

This collection is currently being listed and documented. The Trust has financed the printing of a selection of 250 black and white prints from the negatives, and a further selection of these has been on display in the Winchester Heritage Centre during summer 1995, under the exhibition title of "Winchester through the Lens of Bob Sollars".

We are most grateful to Bob Sollars for this gift, to John Brimfield for the instigation of this acquisition and for his detailed research and interpretation of these negatives, which should keep him busy for years to come! Also, our thanks should go to Len Mears for supplying the black and white prints for the exhibition.

John Brimfield has published a book of a further selection of these photographs earlier in 1995, and copies of the book can be obtained from the Heritage Centre Shop for £8.99.

We are pleased to learn from the Winchester Archivist in the Hampshire County Record Office that they will accept any Trust archives, or the originals of photographs, for long term storage under ideal storage conditions.
