The purpose of Architecture Week is to include a greater number of people in the debate about the future of architecture and to provide information that will let a more diverse audience have a say.
Architecture Week builds on growing public interest in our built environment.
Architecture is all around us, and by making the really good buildings available to the general public will help us appreciate that our environment is not an issue we should take for granted. It is within our rights to expect well designed, well constructed and well planned buildings.
The Royal Institute of British Architects Southern Region which stretches from the Isle of Wight and Hampshire to Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire have encouraged many of its members to show the public round some examples of good architecture in the Region. Come and meet them and join in discussions with local architects.

Architect In The House

Open Practice 16 & 17 June:
Many architectural practices are making their studios available to the public. You can make a visit and see what goes on inside a practice. Contact 020 7973 6469 for a list of the practices taking part or with help in planning a tour.

Sat 3 - Sun 18 June Architecture 2000: building on brownfield sites:
exhibitions at the Southampton Institute, Sir James Matthews Building, Above Bar, Southampton, Hampshire (opposite Tyrrell & Green) and at the Ashmolean Museum Cafe, Oxford, showing contemporary and traditional solutions within tight frameworks. Building on brownfield sites means preserving our greenfield heritage while increasing the focus on well built, well designed buildings in our towns and cities. Visit the exhibition to taste how Southern Region members of the RIBA are raising the standards of design within our built environment. The Romsey & District Society have arranged a guided tour around the well preserved market town of Romsey, Hampshire, 6.00 p.m. start.
