The first of a series of articles about people who work behind the scenes for the Trust.
Dr Vicky Feldwick Secretary to the Trust
To start this series of articles about people who help the Trust, I thought I would let you know about my other current work and voluntary activities.
I work for the Trust one day a week (usually on Monday and Wednesday mornings). I am company secretary, administrative secretary, membership secretary and assistant treasurer. I deal with anything that comes into the Heritage Centre as well as enjoy meeting people as they pop in. I also have three other part time positions, all of which are based at the University of Winchester.
Two of these roles are academic posts. The first is as a part time lecturer, currently tutoring third year students on their final year projects (dissertation). The other involves partnership working with Hampshire Music Service. I am currently at the end of a year long project evaluating their Listen2Me Wider Opportunities music scheme with Key Stage 2 children. The plan for the next partnership project includes more a detailed evaluation into the musical progression of the children beyond the project.
My third job at the University is on the support staff as administrator for Foundation Music. This is like the university music society but so much more. We are part of the Student Services department and we run ensembles, performances, workshops and tuition both at the university and in the local community. Much of our work includes being the public face of the university at local and national events. With Winchester Music School, who are based at the University, we put on an average of a concert a week throughout the year. With at least 8 more concerts/services before Christmas we are kept very busy.
Our next big project is on 26th January 2009, 7pm, in Winchester Cathedral called "A Space for Peace". This event will see up to 15 choirs in a worship and music event, all performing their own music in different places in the cathedral. Outside work I am also kept very busy. I am involved in the preservation and running of Twyford Waterworks. As well as getting my hands dirty with actual preservation work including the narrow gauge railway, I am the Press Officer, in charge of promoting our Open Days over the summer months. I also run a Guide unit in Twyford. With my husband I try to visit as many historical industrial sites as possible, mainly connected with industrial railways.
