Volunteers Wanted - TrustNews July 17
The Trust has the opportunity to seek Heritage Lottery Funding for a Local Heritage List project but to do so we would need to call on the expertise and enthusiasm of our members. We are looking to set up a working group to take the project forward.
Local heritage lists have been part of the continuum of measures which identify and protect buildings of heritage and townscape interest for many years. Winchester has listed buildings and conservation areas but has never compiled a local list to complement these. The proposal is for the City of Winchester Trust to carry out a pilot project in the historic city centre to prepare such a list. This would require the Trust to work in partnership with the local planning authority, community organisations and the public in order to identify local heritage assets that the community would wish to be recognised and protected. In order to identify potential assets for inclusion. There would need to be a programme of public consultation and recruitment and training of volunteers to gather suitable data for the assessment phase. Once the list for the pilot area has been finalised, approved and presented to the community, the process could be rolled out to other communities within the local authority area.
So, we need people who have experience or an interest in any of the following areas :
- Preparing budgets for grant applications
- Designing and managing public consultation exercises
- Assessing heritage assets
- Recruiting and training volunteers
- Working in partnership with local authorities and community groups
lf you would like any further information or want to volunteer to help the Trust to take this project forward then please give the Secretary your details at secretary@cityofwinchestertrust.co.uk.
