Winchester Walks
We are going to start up our walks around Winchester at the beginning of July. It will be a slow but sure start as we are reluctant to involve too many leaders and participants in case we have to cancel.
We are very grateful to:
John Pilkington who will be taking his party around the Canon Street area with its fascinating history.
John Parker - ‘The History behind the stonework in Winchester’ - this is a fascinating glimpse of the history that lies behind the stonework to be found around Winchester.
Richard Baker who will be showing the evidence that remains of the Monastery before the Dissolution, around the Cathedral area.
A representative from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust with a talk on the Itchen area that runs alongside the recreation area.
There could be one more, but we are still progressing this and will advertise this once we are certain we manage to finalise this walk proposal.
Dates will also be confirmed but are likely to be the first and last Thursdays of July and August, and John Pilkington’s walk to coincide with Heritage Open Day Dates in September. Starting time 6pm. Meeting places to be confirmed.
