Local Plan - Next Steps

Plan/Place Document
Plan/ Place Document

In the March issue of Trust News I reported on the public consultation taking place over 8 weeks which asked how the local plan should address the major issues facing our district over the next 15 years. This finished on 12th April and the City Council is now considering the responses received. I have spoken to Adrian Fox, the strategic planning manager; although he did not know the precise number, there are well over a thousand. There will now be a pause of months while they digest all the representations.

We are likely to hear about the timetable for the next steps in a report to a City Council cabinet meeting in July. Thereafter we can expect the City Council to publish a first draft of an actual plan (called in the jargon a regulation 18 pre submission draft local plan) which could be in the autumn or early next year.

With a planning bill to be considered in the new session of parliament, we must follow its proposals and be ready to lobby if necessary on anything that we consider to be damaging, making use of our membership of Civic Voice to add weight to our views.

If any member has a particular expertise or interest in contributing to the Trust's work on the next stage of the local plan, do please get in touch with us.
