Update on City of Winchester Trust Archives

Rick Anderson and I took over the Trust Archives at the end of 2019 and we decided on a major rebuild. A plan was made to remove all the contents and replace the original racking by new shelving and replacement box files. This plan had to be abandoned with the first lockdown. A joiner was given the job of removing the old racking, painting the room and building new access and shelving during the first Lockdown.

Once this was completed the existing files were reintroduced in their original coverings whilst we decided on the final box files to use. Lockdown 2 and 3 have resulted in little progress with this activity.

During Lockdown 1 the collection of slides donated by Andrew Rutter (over 700 slides) were digitised and added to the Collections on the Archives website. During the summer 2020 and subsequent lookdowns the collection of photos donated by Andrew Rutter (over 1600) were digitised. In addition all the photos in the Archives photo files and in the 128 Boxes were also digitised. A new collection called the ‘Total Collection‘ was created including all these photos and all the previous slide collections. This is now on the Archives website and provides a complete display of all the slides and photos in our collection. There are over 9,000 images divided into 100 albums.
