The Garnier Road pumping station
Dr Martin Gregory of the Hampshire Industrial Archaeology Society, who was thanked by Judith Martin at the end of her article in the June issue of TrustNews, writes:
"The site of the Garnier Road pumping station, including Barton Mill and some water meadows, was sold to the College in 1860 by a Mr. Beaven. The College then sold the part on which the pumping station was built to the Mayor and Aldermen of Winchester in 1877 for 650 pounds.
The rest of the story is in two articles I wrote in the HIAS Journal in 2005 and 2006."*
