Visit to Remains of Merdon Castle - Thursday 24th April
Anyone who can offer a lift or would like one should contact Mrs. Brit Croft (Win. 52978). Access to the site is from the minor road which joins the A3090 (on its western side) at Standon, just north of Hursley Village. Number not limited.

Coach Trip to Portsmouth Dockyard - Saturday 10th May
Coach leaves Winchester Broadway (outside St. John's Rooms) at 10.00 a.m. (N.B. It will return to The Broadway via St. Cross). Arrive Portsmouth Dockyard at 11.00 a.m. The tour will be conducted by Commander B. Sparks, R.N., and it includes a fair amount of walking. Bring a packed lunch.
Coach leaves Portsmouth at 4.30 p.m., arriving Winchester Broadway at approximately 5.30.
Cost: £3.00 to approx. £3.60 per person (depending on size of coach and number of seats filled) plus a tip for the driver.

"Unusual Aspects of Winchester Cathedral" - Thursday 22nd May
As the number of participants is strictly limited to 12, advance application to Mrs. Croft is essential. (Tel. Win. 52978, address given above). If necessary, a ballot for places will be held on 1st May, and the successful applicants will be notified shortly thereafter. Meet outside the South Transept at 6.00 p.m. Wear sensible shoes and bring a torch if you have one. If you are allocated a place and have to drop out, please notify Mrs. Croft (even at the eleventh hour) so that someone on the reserve list can take your place. A collection will be taken and donated to the Cathedral.

Coach Trip to Singleton and Uppark - Sunday 15th June
Coach leaves Winchester Broadway (outside St. John's Rooms) promptly at 9.00 a.m. Arrive Singleton at about 11.00 a.m. Entrance fees (which we need to collect in advance) are: children 90p, OAPs £1.10 and other adults £1.30. You can buy lunch there or bring your own.
This fascinating Museum is set amongst beautiful Sussex countryside and consists of a most unusual selection of rescued historic buildings: houses, barns, rural craft workshops agricultural buildings. A mediaeval farmhouse; a working watermill; a market hall; 16th century treadwheel; blacksmith's, carpenter's and plumber's workshops; are just some of the interesting exhibits.
Coach leaves Singleton after lunch, arriving at Uppark at 3.00 p.m. Entrance fees are: children 60p, adults £1.20. Guides are provided, and there is a tearoom in the garden. Uppark remains essentially unchanged since Sir Matthew Fetherstonhaugh furnished it in 1750. Fine furniture and plasterwork; Grand Tour pictures; marble chimneypieces; Queen Anne dolls' house. The young Emma Hamilton lived at Uppark, and the Prince Regent was a frequent visitor. The Victorian kitchen, vaulted beer cellar, butler's pantry, the housekeeper's room where H. G. Wells' mother presided and an Exhibition Room are also open.
Coach leaves Uppark at 5.00 p.m. and arrives Winchester Broadway at about 6 o'clock.
Cost: £3.40 to approx. £4.20 per person (depending on size of coach and number of seats filled), plus appropriate entrance fees (see above) plus tip for driver.
