The Life and Work of Owen Browne Carter (1806-1859).
An illustrated talk by Robin Freeman RIBA on a local architect, craftsman and antiquarian.
Now little known today, Carter produced some of the best buildings and illustrations of earlier Victorian Winchester.
The talk will serve as an introduction to a walkabout in 1989. Milner Hall, St. Peter Street.

William Kirby (consultant in art and design for the blind and partially-sighted) will give an illustrated talk on The needs of People with Visual Impairment in their Appreciation of Art, Architecture and the Built Environment, with Particular Reference to Winchester.

(Of interest to everyone who wears glasses or who may need to do so in the future. Updated version of a Lunchtime Lecture which so fascinated the audience that we thought it ought to be repeated. Bill will be bringing along a collection of glasses which simulate various eye defects).
