"The Winchester Bible" by Claire Donovan

The story behind the making of the biggest and undoubtedly the finest twelfth-century Bibles is told in this new book, also to be published in the Spring. The Bible, written by a single Winchester scribe and illustrated by several illuminators of the highest quality, was left unfinished, and therefore provides fascinating evidence of the many processes involved in the production of an elaborately illuminated medieval manuscript. Published by the British Library and Winchester Cathedral Enterprises, the price is £10.95.

Claire Donovan lectures in art history at Southampton Institute of Higher Education, and lives in Winchester.
