Memoirs of a Winchester Working Man – DRIVING STEAM MACHINES - TrustNews Summer 1997

Recorded and transcribed by Mr John Brimfield, the memoirs of Percy Crockford, now aged 93, cover the years of long hours working for Winchester City Council, including being called from school aged 14 to drive the steam lorry home for his father following an accident. The memoirs, the first publication by the Archive Committee of the Trust, are obtainable from the Heritage Centre, price £2.99.

Annual General Meeting - MONDAY 3RD NOVEMBER 1997 - TrustNews Summer 1997

"Raising Public Awareness in the Built Heritage and the Role of the Bursledon Brickworks Project" is the title of the talk to be given at the AGM, by Kevin Stubbs who is Project Director of the Centre for the Conservation of the Built Environment, Bursledon Brickworks.

As well as the AGM procedures and this talk, the 1997 Design Awards will be announced by Sherban Cantacuzino, Chairman of the Selection Panel (see Spring Newsletter for details).

1997 is the 40th anniversary of the Trust. All members and friends are welcome to the AGM and encouraged to come. Wine will be available after the proceedings.

3 September: The Presidents Garden Our President and Lady Ramsbotham have kindly agreed to open their garden to Members, 5.30-8pm, East Lane, Ovington.

9 October: Book Sale Heritage Centre 9am-3pm. Books to be delivered to Office.

1 November: AGM Details later lecture by Sir Richard Rogers.
