Obituary - TrustNews Summer 1999

Margaret Salmon 1909 - 1999

Margaret Salmon who was in her 90th year and formerly lived in St. James' villas died at Flowerdown Nursing Home in February.

Alan Cooke represented the Trust at her Funeral at Christchurch. Margaret was a stalwart member of Alan's team of stewards at the Heritage Centre. Given her advanced years she insisted on walking from St. James Lane to Upper Brook Street, with a stick as her aid, and then sat alone in the Centre.

Before she retired she was matron of one of the Winchester College houses. She had an active retirement; as well as keeping at the Heritage Centre she was a steward at Uppark House. She also helped to wash "pots" at the Archaeology Centre at Hyde, was a Holy Duster at the Cathedral, and was also involved in craft work. She will be very much missed.
