2 Defined Limits of Study
The limits of the study have broadly been taken as those of the present conservation area west of the railway but extended westwards to the prison, which forms a clear limit. The busy Romsey Road cuts through the area and this suggests considering the area in two parts, a north and south area. However the area between St James's Lane and North View have such a similar housing mix that there seems no point in differentiation.
