Redundant Churches - Trust Annual Report 1969

The Pastoral Measure of the Church of England which came into operation on 1st April, 1969, lays down the procedure to be adopted in the event of a church not being required any longer as a place of worship.

When the church is closed it comes under the care of the Diocesan Board of Finance and will continue to do so for at least a year, while a suitable use is being sought. Redundant churches may be let, licensed, sold or even given away for a specified use. Failing any of these solutions the redundancy scheme must provide for the demolition of the church except in the case of churches of special historic or architectural importance, when it will be placed under the care of the Redundant Churches Fund.
