37 and 39 Southgate Street - Trust Annual Report 1970

Two years ago we were concerned about the fate of these two houses standing empty and endangering the whole terrace of which they form half. It is good to see therefore that renovation is now taking place and what an asset they are to this part of Winchester. Unfortunately many years ago the end house had suffered from an application of red paint to the brick work. This has necessitated repainting, and this extends over half the terrace while the natural brick work remains in the other two houses. This half and half effect is always unsatisfactory as all four houses cry out to be treated as one unit, but under the circumstances there seems to have been no other choice.

It now only remains for the porches to be restored and this would seem to be a worthy case for grant support.
