Hampshire Buildings Preservation Trust - Trust Annual Report 1980
At the July meeting your Council was addressed by Michael Pearce (the head of the Historic Buildings Bureau in the County Planning Department) on the work of the Bureau and the Hampshire Buildings Preservation Trust.
The H.B.P.T. which operates on the basis of a revolving fund with ploughed back profits, has rescued a number of buildings in very bad condition technically, and almost hopeless positions financially, during the last five years. The Historic Buildings Bureau gives technical advice and can claim a crucial role in the rebuilding of Gilberts Bookshop, one of Winchester's landmarks.
Members were particularly interested to learn, during the course of a superbly illustrated talk, that the H.B.P.T. has hopes of undertaking a future project in the City, possibly in co-operation with the Winchester Preservation Trust.
