Eastleigh Amenity Society - Trust Annual Report 1980

In 1979 the Trust's help was sought by Eastleigh residents who were concerned about the continuing neglect of Home Farm, a group of listed buildings owned by Eastleigh Borough Council. (An application to demolish had been refused in 1977, following a public inquiry). The Trust felt unable to intervene, but offered to assist in the formation of a local society. Two members spoke at the inaugural meeting and a donation of £25.00 was made. Eastleigh Amenity Society now has more than 60 members. Its achievements include constructive comments on the Chandler's Ford District Plan and organisation of a meeting of 43 representatives of local authorities and societies at which views on the Twyford By-pass proposals were exchanged.

Strong objection to a renewal application to demolish Home Farm led the Borough Council to retain an expert who discovered that the 19th century farmhouse contains the remains of a 16th century yeoman's open hall house. The application was withdrawn and the Council is now seeking new uses for all the farm buildings.
