A Headquarters for the Trust - Trust Annual Report 1980
For some years now the Trust's project list has been headed by the hope of having our own headquarters. If only we had a headquarters, we would have a focal point to which enquirers could come and have their questions answered; we could hold our council and committee meetings in our own meeting room; we could build up a library of books, publications and photographs and keep them all in one place; we could mount periodic specialist exhibitions or permanent displays of the Trust's projects, and draw attention to areas of the city or buildings that are of concern to us.
Several ideas for a headquarters have been put forward over the years. Some have disappeared even before we had time to study the implications — some, like 5254 Upper Brook Street or perhaps somewhere in Staple Gardens are still dangling before our eyes. At one time we even thought about asking for the use of one or two of the rooms in the labyrinth below the Guildhall, or a corner of the Westgate. A recent idea is to make enquiries about vacant upper floors in the High Street. The visit to the Bath Preservation Trust's magnificent H.Q., referred to earlier, has given a fresh impetus and we would be grateful for any new ideas or help to achieve this goal.
