Our relationship with the local authorities has been through many phases and, bearing in mind that the Trust was originally founded in order to oppose the then Council policy of wholesale demolition, perhaps it is not surprising that friction continues to arise from time to time. We do not claim to be right on all occasions, but we do ask that our views are heard with respect; after all, time has shown that the Trust tends to be ahead of rather than behind the fashionable policies of past decades. We are very pleased to report that recent conflicts of opinion have led to a growing atmosphere of mutual respect in our dealings with Senior Officers and open minded Councillors.
