The Archives Committee - Trust Annual Report 1982

The Committee is devoted to the task of recording the changing character of Winchester, but the year has been relatively quiet because little archival material has been received.

We would particularly welcome the loan of photographs of the old city which, after careful copying, would be promptly and gratefully returned. Old photographs provide an important pictorial record and many are certain to find a place in the proposed Heritage Centre. It is also hoped to acquire sound recording equipment during the coming year to record the experience of older Wintonians, whose personal anecdotes can so richly embroider the pictorial record. This would supplement the valuable work already being done in this field by Mr. Austin Whitaker, the Winchester City Archivist. If there is any member or friend of the Trust with knowledge of sound recording equipment, an offer of advice and assistance would be most welcome.

The Committee is always anxious to acquire any material that would add to our knowledge and understanding of the City. If members or friends can help in any way then they should contact the secretary before some golden opportunity is irretrievably lost.
