President's Walks - Trust Annual Report 1983

These were their usual well-attended success, with the bonus of warm fine evenings and enthusiastic responses to our President's exhortations to join the rota manning the Heritage Centre.

The first walk was based on St. Peter's Street and included a brief foray into Jewry Street to discuss Northgate House. There followed a visit to the Close, where the Bishop of Basingstoke kindly allowed us to invade his beautiful house and garden. Our third trip, to St. Cross, started at the Grange with a warm welcome from the Matron and ended with a brief glimpse of the Alms Houses. The year's programme had an additional surprise item: a tour of Serle's House and the Greenjackets' Museum, conducted by the Curator, Lt. Col. Darroch. Numbers had to be limited on this trip, but a return visit might be possible if there is sufficient demand.
