Where are the Cally Hill Brickworks? - Trust Annual Report 1983

Many early 19th century buildings in Winchester, such as the Public Library (the former Corn Exchange), Clifton Terrace, Princess Court in St. Peter Street, and the Chernocke Place terraces in Southgate Street, are faced with bricks of a delicate yellow. During the recent reconstruction of the similarly-faced terraces in North Walls the name 'CaIly (or Gally) Hill Brick Works' was revealed impressed into the back of a brick. Despite extensive local searches and enquiries at the Brick Development Association no trace of these brickworks has been found. Do any of our members know anything about them?
