Landscape Committee - Trust Annual Report 1986
For several years we had a Trees Committee which monitored planning applications, conducted surveys and gave advice on tree planting. Since it was found that the scope of the Committee was broadening to include problems of landscape as a whole, it was felt appropriate in 1984 to change the name of the Committee to its present title.
Members will recall from last year's Report that concern was expressed about the river wall repairs in The Weirs. The Trust made various representations and it is disappointing to find that the work, which is now nearly complete, includes an ugly tarmac path and crude safety barrier.
During the year the Committee has endeavoured to look at different parts of the City's landscape, to note what is there and what is lacking, and it has started to record and to note places where new planting would be an improvement. It hopes to interest residents' associations in the landscape of their own districts and make suggestions for improvements, and steps in this direction have already been taken.
The £25 donation from the Richmond Society will be used for a Red Oak to be planted in November by our President, Mrs. Barbara Carpenter Turner, at the Park end of Park Avenue.
The Committee has been fortunate to have the help of the City's Landscape Architect, Mr. Julian Davis, at its meetings.
