Tony Hunter - TrustNews Summer 2001

Died March 2001

Rosemary Kinnaird-Smith and Antony Skinner represented the Trust at the very moving funeral service of Tony Hunter at All Saints Church, Highcliffe, on March 22nd.

Tony was a steward at the Heritage Centre in the mid-90s before taking over as Manager from Alan Cooke; subsequently George Burnett with whom he lodged became Manager. Tony was a delightful character not everyone appreciated his laid-back style, but he was a very good companion. He was a most amusing character to chat with, with an interesting turn of phrase –often critical – to describe current events both nationally and Winchester orientated.

Not all knew that he was one of the founder members of the Action Group that saved the Theatre Royal; he was often front-of-house steward at performances; latterly he was not connected with the Theatre.

The service was enlivened by an exquisite poem especially written by his former wife, part of which was about his musical talent.
