St Faith's Parish Graveyard - TrustNews August 09

The Parish of St Faith, located in the St Cross area of Winchester has a little know graveyard, located in the angle between Kingsgate Road and St Cross Road. Almost exactly 500 years ago the church was demolished through lack of demand and the remaining parishioners, at the behest of the Bishop, invited to worship with the brothers at the Hospital of St Cross Chapel. This arrangement continues today.

The site continued as a burial ground until quite recently, and the Parish faithfully maintains this tranquil area through the exertions of willing volunteers. There was a workday there in June during which the 4-80's cleared a tremendous amount of vegetation.

However there is always further work to do to maintain it as a haven of peace and a reserve for nature. If you or your friends have an occasional hour to do some gentle (or otherwise) clearing please contact John Pringle (Tel 01962 870426) who can advise what needs doing.

You are welcome to visit at any time. The entrance is after the bus stop on the way out of Winchester, just before you reach Kingsgate Road. There is a comfortable bench on which to rest and listen to the birds singing.
