Portsmouth Visit - TrustNews Jun 12

Monday 18th June 2012

Hosted by the Portsmouth Society, the City of Winchester Trust invites you to join them on a day visit to Portsmouth.

Heritage Under Pressure - From the early ramparts of the 14th century through to the Royal Navy's billion-pound warships of the 21st century, Portsmouth has always been a bulwark of Britain's defence strategy. Our walk will show how, in parallel across the years, local historical events, maritime commerce, religion, social changes, education, architecture and heritage tourism have influenced and are reflected in Old Portsmouth's street scene and built environment. The walk will be led by David Baynes, Vice-Chairman of the Portsmouth Society.

The walk will end at the "abarbistro", a restaurant close to the harbour for lunch. A two course lunch with two choices will be included in the overall cost. We will ask for your choices once you have applied.

After lunch, members will be free to choose other visits - the Spinaker Tower, the Dockyard, even Gunwharf Quays (at extra cost payable on the day).
