Trust's new President

Trust's new President - TrustNews Jun 12

Having sadly lost Judge Christopher Clark due to his relocation to the Truro Court, we are delighted that Joy Carter, Vice Chancellor of the University of Winchester, has agreed to become President of the Trust at the AGM on 26th September, when she will also give the address. Apart from all her other achievements, Professor Carter has impressed the Trust with her interest in the well being of the City, leading to a greatly enhanced relationship between the University, the City Council and other local organisations. In particular, she has consistently supported the trust when asked, and shares many of our aspirations for the future of Winchester.

Professor Carter has been Vice-Chancellor of The University of Winchester since 2006 and was previously Pro-Vice-Chancellor Academic at the University of Glamorgan. Her research area is Environmental Geochemistry and Health, and she was until recently International President of the Society of Environmental Geochemistry and Health. Her research interests include pesticides, trace metals, and micro-anionic nutrients and she has published over one hundred papers and several books in the field. Professor Carter is Chair of the Cathedrals Group of Universities, Vice-Chair of GuiIdHE and a Director of UniversitiesUK. Other national roles include Chair of the University Vocational Awards Council and a member of the Ministerial Advisory Group on FE and Skills.

Professor Carter will speak at the AGM about "A University and its Community", including something of the history of the university with illustrations from the early King Alfred College days, plans for the future and relationships with the town.
