Heritage Open Days

England's largest festival of history and culture will return on 11-20 September, and this year for the first time, the Heritage Open Days (HODs) programme will be a mix of in-person and digital events. Communities will be able to celebrate the stories of the places and spaces that are important to them while staying safe and adhering to current social distancing measures. Digital events will include pre-recorded walks and talks, live streaming of lectures and performances and specially commissioned films and audio. Winchester Heritage Open Days events listing and box office are on the web site www.winchesterheritageopendays.org

The Trust's contribution to this year’s HODs is a specially commissioned video narrated by well-known travel writer and Trust member John Pilkington. Entitled The City of Winchester trust: sixty years of influencing the heritage and character of Winchester, the ten-minute film will show how Winchester has developed over the last sixty years, some of the important changes in the city's life and appearance since the 1950s, and the Trust’s role in working to safeguard the unique character of the city. The film will be available on our website: www.cityofwinchestertrust.co.uk
