Landscape Committee - TrustNews April 1986
The Committee has been considering where in Winchester there is a need for new trees. They would be interested in hearing where Trust Members would plant. With the donation from the Richmond Society, for a tree, we hope it may be possible to plant one in a redesigned pavement area outside the Britannia Building Society in Jewry Street, or by Princes Buildings in Middle Brook Street. City Road needs trees in the wide pavement near the Benefit Office, but we are advised that buildings there are to be extensively refurbished (involving scaffolding, etc.)
The North Walls Park and Nuns' Walk areas are also possible locations for new trees. The City Council would welcome gifts of bulbs to plant there. Some crocus have already been donated by a Trust Member. Crocus, small-type narcissus, snowdrops and aconites would all be suitable. If you could contribute, please get in touch with Terry Ford-Stent at the City Offices, Tel. Win. 68166 Extension 2211.
Winchester has very little sculpture. It would be pleasant to see some in the Park area, even if it were only a group of concrete play animals, such as hippos, which are so appealing to children. What do members think?
