Summer Lecture 30th May - TrustNews Spring 1996
‘The Fight against Uniformity - Local Distinctiveness - Who Cares?’
This is the title of a Lecture to be given by Barry Joyce in The Milner Hall on Thursday 30 May
Barry Joyce is Principal Planning Officer, Heritage and Design, at Derbyshire County Council. Having trained as an architect, he has spent his working life in conservation planning, and has been with Derbyshire County Council since 1976. In 1982 he was awarded the Royal Town Planning Institute's Award for Achievement for his work on the Civic Trust inspired Wirksworth Project'. He is an active member of the Derbyshire Historic Buildings Trust, and has served on the Derbyshire Diocesan Advisory Committee since 1978. He lives in Wirksworth in a restored Georgian listed building.
Gordon Michell, Chairman of the Trust's Design Award Panel in 1991, knows Barry Joyce well, and guarantees he will be both provocative and have much to say which is relevant to Winchester's own experiences. We hope members (and their friends) will come to the Milner Hall to hear him. There will be wine available after the lecture.
