Central Developments - Trust Annual Report 1966

Members of the Preservation Trust were relieved to learn during the year that the proposal to build a new supermarket between Upper Brook Street and Parchment Street was rejected by the City Council, and this decision was upheld by the Minister after an appeal by the developers. It was plainly undesirable that large delivery vehicles should cause further congestion in these narrow streets, and the whole concept would be quite out of scale with the character of the town, and the proposed materials would not have harmonised with existing buildings.
