Hyde Abbey Stream - Trust Annual Report 1970
One of the biggest improvements in Winchester is recent years has taken place round Hyde Abbey Gateway, which has now been excellently restored and the surrounding grounds well laid out. The City Council is to be congratulated on carrying out this very attractive scheme. The Preservation Trust is very pleased to have been associated with this, and to accept responsibility for repairing the high wall by the stream. This was in a very bad state because it seemed to be no one's responsibility, though if it had collapsed it would have undermined the nearby properties. A grant was obtained for £300 and the Trust contributed £250.
In the same area plans are now being drawn up for the International Students Hostel and Art Students Hostel, a combined project between the City Council and County Council, incorporating the Hyde Barn Site, which up to the present time has been used by the Post Office Telephone service.
