Staple Gardens - Trust Annual Report 1980
The Town Centre Plan documents published in 1979 finally rescinded the proposals for the Staple Gardens area contained in Donald Insall's Westgate Study and identified the Central Car Park site as the only area for a future major shopping development in the City, leaving the Staple Gardens area a badly run down eyesore in urgent need of reconsideration.
The Council of the Trust hopes that it will be able to undertake a study showing the potential of the Staple Gardens area (similar to its St. John's Street Study) before the end of 1980 and publish a report in the following year.
