We understand that Marstons are leaving Winchester and that their site, which extends to over 2 acres, is on the market for redevelopment.
This very historic site is bounded to the south by the Roman Vallum and to the west by the site of the Northgate. Here the city ditch is still visible, together with the mediaeval bridge under the road approach to Northgate. The site includes the Brewery Buildings, the White Swan, Northgate House and the Bowling Green and Pavilion.
The Trust has submitted a report to the City Conservation Officer, who has acted very quickly in recommending that a Building Preservation Notice be served in respect of the White Swan, Northgate House, and the Brewery Office and Counting House.
